Valley of Flowers National Park Himalayas

Valley of Flowers is located in Chamoli district (near Badrinath) of Uttarakhand, approximately 300 km to the north of Rishikesh. This is a picturesque national park, gracing the beauty of Western Himalayas.  Valley of flowers was discovered in 1931 and is a World Heritage Site for its wild untamed blooms surrounded by white peaks. The Valley is 20 km northwest of Nanda Devi national park across the wide valley of the Bhyundar Ganga. It is one of two hanging valleys lying at the head of the Bhyundar valley, the other being the shorter Hemkund valley which runs parallel some 10 km south. It runs east-west approximately 15 km by an average of 6 km wide, in the basin of the Pushpawati river, a small tributary flowing from the Tipra glacier which descends from Gauri Parbat in the east.

The area lies in the Zanskar range of the Himalayas with the highest point in the national park being Gauri Parbat at 6,719 m above sea level.Valley of flowers Famous for its exotic varieties of medicinal herbs, it is also believed that Hanuman brought Sanjivani to the ailing Lakshmana from the valley of flowers.

Flowers mostly orchids, poppies, primulas, marigold, daisies, and anemones carpet the ground. sub-alpine forests of birch and rhododendron cover parts of the park’s area.

Safety of Valley of Flowers – monsoon

The trek is safe throughout the monsoon season. It may get slippery in parts due to rains. Good trekking shoes can take care of it. So, choose your trekking shoes wisely.


Apart from that, keep an eye out for the strong river currents while crossing bridges on the trek. To be safe, trek in the first half of the day when rains aren’t heavy.

Reach Valley Of Flowers From Rishikesh

Valley of flowers lies deep inside Uttarakhand in the Chamoli district. The trek starts at a place called Govindghat. To get to Govindghat, you need to come to Rishikesh. Rishikesh is a big city of Uttarkhand and also a popular destination for tourists and pilgrims alike. It lies at the foothills of the Himalayas and is your gateway to the Garhwal region.

Documents to carry On Valley Of Flowers

Carry an Original and photocopy of government photo identity card. Anything such as a driver’s license, Aadhar card, a passport will do. You will need to submit your identification to the forest department. Without these, you will not be allowed to trek.

Entry Fee

INR 150 for Indian and INR 450 for foreigners, respectively. The ticket is valid for 3 days from the date of purchase.
